Life Skills
Daily living skills are an important part of Mainstream’s training program. Encouraging the individuals we serve to take pride in their surroundings and maintain a clean and orderly work space are one of the most transverse skills one can possess. A great majority of our population live with housemates and knowing how to care for a shared living environment can greatly improve one’s quality of life. We focus on tasks that are necessary on a daily basis including cleaning and maintaining common areas, using a telephone, respecting spatial relationships, operating household appliances, set up/break down of activities/projects, etc. All of these skills can be taken a step further and may be developed into more responsible habits such as preparing a meal, understanding grocery as a life skill (choosing food, making a purchase, etc.), money management, social interaction in a public setting. etc.
